FAA grants pay for airport safety upgrades

ILLINOIS — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D) announced the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded grants totaling nearly $9.5 million for safety improvements to state airports.

Midway International Airport is getting more than $2 million; O’Hare International Airport is getting $162,000 and the University of Illinois-Willard is getting more than $1.6 million.

Durbin says,”These critical funds will help improve safety for travelers flying in and out of our state. Investing in our airports is key to our state’s economic success, and I will continue working to ensure Illinois communities have access to the federal resources that make air travel safer and more efficient.”

The state is getting more than $5.66 million for improvements to various other airports including Waukegan National, Litchfield Municipal, Albertus Airport and the St. Louis Downtown Airport.
