SPRINGFIELD — Former Illini football player Curtis Lovelace has been found not guilty for the murder of his first wife Cory. Jury deliberations got underway about 2 o’clock Friday afternoon. The jurors heard closing arguments Friday, 11 years after his first wife Cory was found dead in her bed on Valentine’s Day in 2006.
The prosecution’s closing arguments lasted nearly an hour and a half. It called 24 witnesses to the stand, three times more than the defense. Lovelace took the stand in his own defense on Thursday. He did not testify in his 2016 trial in Adams County which ended in a hung jury.
