MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — Dunn’s Ambulance Service told the city it will be shutting down by the end of May.
It’s one of two private ambulance companies in the city. In July Mattoon decided to stop the fire department’s ambulance service, saying it duplicated the work of the private companies.
When Dunn’s closes, all ambulance calls would be directed to the only service left, Mitchell-Jerden.
The fire department says it would be willing to reboot its ambulances if that’s what the city wants.
