Decatur crews respond to fire at Walmart


DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — First responders say no one was hurt after solar panels caught fire on the roof of a Walmart location in Decatur.

It happened at 1 p.m. on North Prospect Drive.

A press release says firefighters got to the scene and saw black smoke coming from the back of the building. Crews then set a ground ladder and climbed up on the roof.

The Decatur Fire Department says they found smoke and fire on the roof. Firefighters then brought out a hose line and put it out.

DFD says all customers were evacuated from the store, and the flames did not get inside.

Investigators say they believe it started in the solar panels.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters said it is happening at the location on Prospect Drive, near I-72. They stated the fire started on the store’s roof.
