Crews at house fire

News

ROBERTS, Ill. (WCIA) — A local man has to find somewhere else to stay after his home caught fire Thursday morning. Officials are still trying to determine the cause. It started about 11 am, on Hickory Drive.

No one was hurt. No one was home at the time, but two cats are missing. Authorities didn’t have a damage estimate, but say it’s probably a total loss.

The owner says he built it in 1976. He was headed out of town on an errand when his friend called him.

Several different fire companies responded to the scene; all were volunteer. Crews say it’s great to see so many people come out to help. Some people even gave out water bottles to firefighters.

Dehm says it’s good the fire didn’t spread to the garage which could have made things worse since there were cars and gasoline in it. He hopes his insurance company will help him relocate.

A fire marshal will have to come investigate the cause but initial impressions are it could have been electrical.
