Cooling center at “zero” capacity

News

PAXTON — The emergency services building is trying a second time to open a cooling center. They set up a comfortable lounge area for people to come in, take a break and cool off. But, for the second time, no one’s coming.

This time, they’ve tried to spread the word in several ways, including social media. They also have signs on the street and on the door, but they’re disappointed no one is coming to take advantage. They say they’re not sure why the room is empty, but there’s an explanation they hope is the reason.

Doors close at 6 pm, but open back up Friday, from 12 – 6 pm. People say the homeless and elderly would benefit from using the cooling station, but it’s unlikely either group would find out about it on social media.
