City council discussing ambulance service

City discusses if change in ambulance service is effective

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA)– People have only had one choice when it comes to calling an ambulance company. Now the city is deciding if it’s going to stay that way. The City Administrator says they are still being evaluated, but so far that one service has been doing well. Six months ago another company, Dunn’s Ambulance Service shut down. Mithchell Jerden was the only one running. The city set a moratorium or hold not to accept any more ambulance licenses for 6 months.

The City Administrator says Mitchell Jerden has had great call times and increased ambulances and personell. Now that the moratorium is set to expire, the city council will discuss how the current ambulance service has been doing. Every year they will look at how Mitchell Jerden is performing and whether or not one service is adequate for the city.
