NATIONAL (WCIA) — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D) is pushing for automatic voter registration nationwide.

The congressman proposed new legislation which would automatically register a citizen to vote when renewing a license, changing an address or interacting with state or federal agencies.

People will have the choice to opt out.

Right now, similar legislation passed through the Illinois House and Senate. It awaits Governor Bruce Rauner’s signature. Last year, he vetoed it.
