URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Law enforcement officials say they’re investigating a shooting early Monday morning that killed one man and injured two others.

A press release from the Urbana Police Department (UPD) stated officers responded to a reported shooting around 3 a.m. Monday to the 1400 block of Silver Street. They arrived within four minutes of the report and found one person lying on the ground in the parking lot, who was “suffering from penetrating wounds” to his lower stomach/pelvis area.

Police tried to use life-saving measures to help him, the report added, but the man later died after he was taken to Carle Hospital. Officers found two more men who were hurt by the gunfire or had been cut. They were both taken to Carle Hospital as well.

UPD said their initial investigation found there was a fight that took place in front of an apartment unit, which then led to the shooting.

“The scene is still being actively processed” the release added.

The identity of the deceased man has been withheld, pending notification to their family and further coordination with the Champaign County Coroner’s office.

Urbana police ask anyone with information, photos, or video records of this crime to contact them at 217-384-2320. Detectives will arrange a private meeting with witnesses. People can also provide information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS, online at 373tips.com, or through the “P3 Tips” mobile app.
