SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Park District voted to rename Douglas Park.

It will be named after Otis Duncan, a Springfield native who was the highest-ranking black officer to serve in the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during WWI.

The board decided to rename the park after the Capitol Architecture Board voted to remove the Stephen Douglas statue from the Capitol grounds.
