Board considers future of old firehouse

News

TOLONO — An old firehouse has been given a reprieve from the wrecking ball, at least for now. The fire station is in the 200-block of East Main Street.

A former village president requested the demolition be put on hold because of the building’s historic value. The fire department built it in 1954 for $5,000 with firemen doing almost all the construction.

Others say the building is infested with insects and has a leaky roof. The village board is considering what to do.
