Biking to work in winter

CHAMPAIGN – Most people stop bicycling once the temperature drops and snow hits the ground – but not everyone.

Tim Barnes has been riding his bike to and from work for 20 years – and he does it all year round. He says it helps him stay in shape. He logs about 50 miles a week. Barnes says he didn’t always ride in the winter – he has someone to thank for that.

“I had a friend from Scandinavia. And he told me, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. So that made me, guilted me, into riding all year long,” says Barnes, of Savoy.
Barnes says it makes you feel accomplished when you bike to work in weather like this, plus it gives him 40 minutes to listen to music.
