Artist proves skill with chainsaw

LE ROY, Ill. (WCIA) — Chainsaw artist Bill Baker is causing an up-ROAR. He’s creating a Panther Tree. The panther is the mascot of Le Roy High School. He’s cutting it up in Kiwanis Park, about three blocks from the school.

“Just over the years of doing it, you get used to certain cuts and how certains things are going to flow,” said Baker. “You do have to think a little bit about how certain cuts are going to go. You don’t want to cut too deep, ’cause that’s where the tail is at. Certain things like that.”

Baker has been doing wood carving for more than 20 years, and recently did two pieces in the Champaign area.

If you want to have him do a piece for you, you’ll have to wait. Baker said he’s booked through the rest of the year.
