Annual Twilight Parade kicks off State Fair

News

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA)– Hundreds came out to celebrate the beginning of the state fair through the Twilight Parade.

“Even though it’s in Spingfield, it encompasses all the surrounding areas and you see people from a bunch of small towns come together collectively and celebrate the state fair,” said Abby Milhiser of Springfield.

The parade is an opportunity for everyone to shine in front of the community, from area high schoolers to state politicians.

“I am excited for all the families of Illinois who are going to come to this fair and know the very best of Illinois,” said Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton.

Although some of the folks in the parade are from out of town, many people in the crowd came to cheer on loved ones.

This yea, track and field star and East Saint Louis native Jackie Joyner-Kersee served as Grand Marshal. Giving parade goers one more thing to look forward to on top of fair staples like food and concerts.
