SPRINGFIELD — In order to save the state some money, one museum will soon become its own state agency.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will now be a stand alone facility. The Rauner administration says the idea could save about $3 million/annually.

Right now, three separate boards oversee the facility. Many critics say too many people were involved in making decisions.

Representative Tim Butler (R) says this is a positive step forward. Officials say they’ll keep all current positions at the museum, but some new jobs will be added.

Governor Bruce Rauner signed an executive order Friday to make the plan permanent.
