CHAMPAIGN — Six men are being charged with dismembering an Urbana woman, but aren’t being charged with murder, yet.
Authorities found Ashley Gibson’s dismembered remains in Clinton Lake, Sunday. All six are charged with a class X felony. Four are in custody; police are still looking for Donte Meeks and Deundrea Weatherspoon.
The coroner didn’t find any fatal injuries on Ashley’s body. That’s why there haven’t been any murder charges filed.
Davion Hedrick and Javon Tate are in jail on unrelated charges. Thursday, Randale Banks and Javon Tate turned themselves in.
Authorities say evidence found at a home on Hedge Road connected all the men to the dismembering of Ashley Gibson’s body, but police wouldn’t go into further detail about that evidence.
Davion Hedrick lived at the home on Hedge. After the investigation, police found Gibson’s remains in the lake.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrop says it’s going to take several weeks for toxicology results to come in. That report should shed some light on Gibson’s cause of death.
Both Meeks and Weatherspoon are 25-year olds from Champaign. Meeks has been on Champaign County’s Most Wanted list three times; for pot possession, DUI and resisting arrest.
As for the location of Meeks or Weatherspoon, anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.

CHAMPAIGN — There are new developments in the death investigation of an Urbana woman.
Six men are being charged in connection with Ashley Gibson’s death. Four are in custody. Police are still looking for Donte Meeks and Deundrea Weatherspoon.
Police still aren’t saying how Gibson died. It’s important to note, so far, none of these men is charged with killing her. They’re only being charged with dismembering her body.
Two of the men were already in police custody on unrelated charges. Two more turned themselves in. Police are still being tight-lipped about the majority of evidence in the case, citing it’s still an open investigation.
What’s known is Ashley Gibson’s mother heard rumors of her daughter’s death. That’s what prompted her to call police.
Though police wouldn’t specify, they said clues at the initial crime scene, on Hedge Road, led them to believe Ashley wasn’t only dead, but also dismembered.
That’s when they went to Clinton Lake, specifically, the area of the Route 54 bridge shoreline to search for her body. Champaign Police Lieutenant Dave Shaffer notes this case is particularly gruesome.
