CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — With the frigid cold, many of us start our car and let it run to warm up; however, that may not be a good idea.

In Champaign, the owner of one car did that Friday morning and it caught fire. Firefighters say it happened near Oakwood Trace Apartments. No one was hurt, but the car was destroyed.

Firefighters are investigating the cause, but say cold temperatures can lead to engine fires this time of year.”We can’t really tell people don’t start their cars or warm their cars up,” said Robert Simmons, Champaign Fire Department. “Security is a bigger issue with that. Just always depends on the vehicles and histories of them and where there’s concerns.”

Firefighter will do a full inspection of the car to try to fire out what happened.
