Keeping the course from tripping runners

Illinois Marathon

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Potholes are hard on cars, but they’re even harder on ankles.

With all the crazy weather, potholes are out in full force this season. It’s worrying some runners with the Illinois Marathon less than two weeks away.

There are several places where the road is rough, but a lot of potholes have been patched. Marathon officials say that’s the big take-away. Yes, there are a lot of potholes this year, but no, they don’t expect it to be a problem.

They’ve been working with city leaders to make sure big potholes on the course are taken care of. The co-director says they’ve already started doing that and he saw workers out on the course Tuesday.

He’s been checking the course regularly and says, if he sees anything that doesn’t get fixed, he’ll put an orange cone on the course.

The marathon is a week from Saturday. Registration ends Sunday.
