Walk for Wishes is a costumed family walk to benefit Make-A-Wish Illinois and its mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Individuals and teams can register and a limited number of sponsorships are available at illinois.wish.org. Celebrating the hundreds of wishes granted statewide every year, Walk for Wishes raises funds for future wishes. All proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Illinois.
Active in the East Central Illinois area since being founded in 1985, Make-A-Wish Illinois counts dozens of area residents as volunteers who help to bring hope to local children with critical illnesses and their families through a wish journey.
Every day, approximately three Illinois children are newly diagnosed with a critical illness. A wish experience can help replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope – helping children battling critical illnesses see the impossible as possible, helping to improve a child’s physical health. Wishes also give children renewed energy, bring families closer together and unite communities.
In the spirit of Make-A-Wish, where anything is possible, Walk for Wishes participants are encouraged to wear costumes of their favorite characters. In addition to hundreds dressed in dazzling costumes, the morning also includes a festive atmosphere and the where attendees can enjoy games, refreshments, music and other activities.
