Thyssenkrupp Group Company employs 155,000 employees globally. Thyssenkrupp Crankshaft Company is part of the Forged Technologies business unit of thyssenkrupp and is the largest forging company in the world. In Danville, IL and Veedersburg, IN they forge and machine heavy duty automotive and industrial Crankshafts. Cummins, John Deere, Caterpillar, and Ford are among some of our biggest customers.
The forging and machining processes are very interesting. We forge Crankshafts by induction heating steel to 1250 Celsius and running it through a series of dies in presses to create a rough forging. Our main press in Danville exerts 12,000 tons of force!
Our machining processes are all about precision. We can hold tolerances of microns. Microns are 1/1000th of a milimeter! Once our machining plant is finished with a part it is ready to go to our customer and drop right into an engine.
We will be participating in the 2017 Tour of Industries October 21st from 9am-3pm. During this event we will open up both our forging and machining plants to the public for tours. We want the public to come tour our facilities so they can see what advanced manufacturing looks like up close and personal. For those who believe a career in manufacturing is not for them, I would encourage them to come out and tour our facilities. There are many misconceptions about manufacturing jobs, one being that they have all gone overseas. We have been in the community for over 40 years and business continues to be strong.
We are always looking for candidates who are driven to come to work everyday, do a good job, and never stop learning. We have internal training programs which help employees grow their wages and skills. There are careers in manufacturing in your community!
