The Meg and Crazy Rich Asians Hit the Big Screen

Film critics, Chuck Koplinski & Pam Powell are back with their reviews of two movies hitting theaters this weekend.

Crazy Rich Asians (Starts Friday) This contemporary romantic comedy, based on a global bestseller, follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family. There’s nothing really wrong with the movie other than the fact that you’ve seen it a hundred times before.  This is a standard rom-com that brings nothing new to the table and overstays its welcome as well. 2 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 120 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, SAV.

The Meg. After escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible. Derivative and overlong, the film can’t decide whether it’s a straight out horror/adventure film or a parody of the “Jaws” franchise. Do yourself a favor and just watch Spielberg’s 1974 classic again. 2 Stars. (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 113 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, HAR, SAV.

Be sure to catch Snow White playing at the Virginia Thursday night!

And congrats to APRIL HART!  She is the winner today of 2 tickets to the Savoy Theater for liking REEL TALK WITH CHUCK AND PAM on Facebook and telling us her favorite Mark Wahlberg film which was “Shooter.”
