From the bikes hanging on the wall to the food on the plate, The Wheelhouse in St. Joseph is a restaurant that is all about taking a new approach to dining in a small town. Even after only being open for a few months, it is a place where many in the community have come to feel at home. Having a local feel is exactly what Co-Owner Abbie Layden-Rogiers hopes customers come to expect.
“The main vibe here is happy and fun and special. I think there is something heartwarming about this place. It is really authentic and genuine, its has a lot to do with our families.” says Layden-Rogiers
By sourcing food locally, the restaurant looks to pay tribute to Central Illinois’ rich agriculture. Chef Ryan Rogiers cooked at restaurants in California and Chicago before deciding he wanted to return to his hometown to bring a new type of cuisine to the area.
