A ministry in rural Effingham county is finding a new way to serve people facing food insecurity in the community. Enduring Freedom Ministries has operated a food bank in Shumway for several years, now, they are adding a soup kitchen as part of their services.
When the ministry began serving meals during food distribution days on a trial basis in late 2017, volunteers noticed the need that existed in the community.
“The numbers increased, children started coming. We could tell there was a need out there that we had never thought of before.” says Executive Director Vickie Kight
Now, Enduring Freedom is serving meals weekly. They were able to fund extensive kitchen renovations thanks to generous donations from local businesses. For more information about Enduring Freedom Ministries, you can visit their Facebook page.
