MATTOON (WCIA) — Where can you program and build your own pinball game, create Hollywood-quality “green screen” effects, or create a t-shirt cannon from scratch?
These are just some of the ideas dreamed up by students at the Innovation Lab at Lake Land Community College in Mattoon. Hundreds of students have come through the lab in the last several years, learning the basic skills needed to innovate and create, key factors employers look for in the twenty-first century.
“Almost anything they can dream, we can make,” notes Scott Rhine, IL coordinator. “It’s about helping students realize their potential. What they see on television, in the movies… in the pages of a magazine or book… CAN be done. We can make it. They can make it.”
Courses immerse students in hands-on projects. Through these experiences, they learn project management, design, even science and math.
