Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose—sound familiar? Today we will learn about how we can help our planet, with help from the past. Before everything was mass-produced and disposable, people would make the most out of everything. Find out how you can use your imagination to repurpose something as simple as a toilet paper roll—and more!

Walnut Hill Boat Launch, Homer Lake Forest Preserve, 7-8:30 p.m.

Learn who comes out when the sun goes down as we explore aquatic life of Homer Lake via canoe. Previous canoe experience is required. All equipment will be provided; please bring water to drink and bug spray. Minimum age to participate is 8 years old; an adult must accompany children under 18. $8 per person, or $4 if you bring your own canoe. Space is limited. Geocaching uses GPS units to search for hidden treasure in an exciting outdoor quest for the whole family! Join us for an introduction to the spirit and hobby of geocaching, followed by a hike to find a multi-cache hidden in the preserve. A limited number of GPS units will be provided for participants to share; you may bring your own handheld GPS if you have one. $2 per person; children 2 and under FREE. A single Illinois bat can eat up to 3,000 insects each night! Join us to learn more about these ecologically important mammals and how white-nose syndrome is affecting their populations. After a short presentation indoors, we will head over to the Covered Bridge to look for the bats that roost there. $3 per person; children 2 and under are FREE.
