The Champaign County Master Gardeners are hosting their annual Garden Walk on June 15th.

2019 Garden Walk at the Weber Garden

This year, Mike and Susan Weber will host the 2019 Champaign County Master Gardener’s Garden Walk at their property in Champaign. They are one of 8 area properties that will be featured in this year’s event.  All gardens were selected for their unique and beautiful display of ornamental plants, offering participants a great chance to bring home new ideas to apply in their own garden.
As a gardening team, the Webers have very complimentary interests and talents.  Mike’s interest in plants and plant collecting is primarily scientific.  He is constantly working to apply his knowledge and experience so that, in the end, he believes he has the best specimen he knows how to grow. Whereas, Susan loves the design aspect of gardening. She tries to use her expertise to display Mike’s collection in such a way that each plant can both be recognized for its own merits as well as be seen as part of a larger, pleasing picture.
The Webers have an extensive conifer collection because they love the seasonal changes of conifer colors and their subtle contribution to the landscape in all seasons. They also have a large collection of succulents, some of which they acquire on trips to Denver to visit grandchildren. Mike has started “splashing pollen” in an attempt to develop more very late-blooming daylilies (i.e., starting late August to September and finishing sometimes with the first frost); his newest addiction is only fitting since daylilies were one of the first additions after the property was purchased in 1986. Last but not least, the Webers certainly have a love for hostas, with their wonderful variety contributing to the serenity in the garden.
If you are interested in viewing the Weber’s garden and many other wonderful and interesting spaces across Champaign-Urbana, the 2019 Garden Walk will be held on Saturday, June 15th from 9am-4pm.  Tickets may be purchased online at go.illinois.edu/GWtickets or at the Champaign County Extension Office, located at 801 N. Country Fair Drive in Champaign.
