Champaign, Ill. (WCIA) –
A buddy comedy and a new take on Shakespeare’s most famous play are on area screens this week. Film Critic, Chuck Koplinski, is back with his review.
A re-imagining of Hamlet, told from Ophelia’s perspective, this invigorating film allows the viewer to revisit the oft-told story through new eyes. Daisy Ridley is wonderful in the title role as is Naomi Watts in a dual role as the key who takes the young girl under her wing and her cruel sister in hiding. Shakespearean scholars will probably object but this proves to be one of the summer’s biggest surprises. 3 1/2 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 114 minutes.
A detective (Dave Bautista) recruits his Uber driver (Kumail Nanjiani) into an unexpected night of adventure. While the chemistry between the two leads is effective, they are in dire need of a better movie as this is nothing but a collection of cliches from other better buddy movies. 2 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated R. 93 minutes.
