“On the Shoulders of Giants: The Moon and Beyond”

It’s a part of history that still is talked about today.. going to the moon.  Many recall the day President John F Kennedy declared we would go to the moon.
It’s all a part of our story.. in a new exhibit that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
It’s happening in your community..    Andy Cougill, with Eastern Illinois University Booth Library joins us..
Andy was the exhibit coordinator for “On the Shoulders of Giants: The Moon and Beyond”, a semester-long exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing, the space program, it’s influence on humankind, the future of space exploration, and EIU connections to space exploration.

Jonathan was our main partner in the EIU Department of History for our TV production, “To the Moon and Back, An Oral History of the Lunar Landing, July 20, 1969” in partnership with WEIU. He was instrumental in the conceptual development of the program, conducting interviews, and editing to the final product.

While Booth Library directly serves the EIU campus community, we are also proud to offer exhibits, events, and resources to communities throughout the region. Our programs are open to the public and we strongly encourage visits from schools.

The exhibit is open and accessible whenever the library is open. We also have a schedule of events posted online that the public is encouraged to attend.

Betty Jo (Moore) Armstead, a 1953 graduate of EIU who started working for NACA (the predecessor of NASA) in 1954 as a computer and retired in 1982 from the Master Planning Office of the Engineering Directorate.
