Girls Next Door A cappella from the University of Illinois, join us with holiday songs before their winter show!
Founded in 1971, Girls Next Door is the University of Illinois’ premeire female a cappella group. These women are diverse in background and interests, but all share a passion for music and take pride in their ability to push the limits of all female a cappella. Performing music from almost every genre, GND is compelling and dynamic, captivating audiences of all ages.
We sing at a variety of events around campus and the state of Illinois! We always get questions about where our arrangements come from. Nearly all of our arrangements are actually arranged by girls in the group or former members of the group! We even sell them through our website so that other all-female groups can perform them too.
We always have people ask us how to beat box. Most of the girls learned during their time in the group and Andy can do a demonstration of a few different beat boxing tricks if you would like!
We are different from other a cappella groups because we have been on campus since 1971. Since we have been around so long we take pride in upholding a lot of traditions. For instance, we perform Java Jive (our favorite jazz standard that the group started singing in 1971!) at every one of our shows. We really appreciate and maintain the legacy of the group members that came before us and aim to guide those that come after.
We are having our winter show on December 8th at 7 pm at the Spurlock Museum in Urbana. There we will be performing a fun variety of holiday songs in addition to some pop songs, oldies, and our brand new Mamma Mia Medley! More information about the show can be found on our facebook page “Girls Next Door A cappella” and on our website “girlsnextdooracapella.com.”
We are very excited to celebrate the holiday season through song!
