Come summertime, most classrooms across Central Illinois sit quiet. However, at Garden Hills Elementary in Champaign, plenty of noise can be heard billowing out of one classroom as kids get a lesson in drumming.

It is just one of many arts programs being offered by One People’s Summer Arts Camp, a program founded four years ago to help expand artistic exposure to students of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

“We have media, we have dance, we have drumming, visual arts, vocal performance where they join together for a camp choir.” says Camp Director Michelle Adeoye.

Volunteers come together to encourage kids to appreciate the arts. People with a variety of artistic backgrounds come together to teach the classes.
