When it comes to taking in the best and brightest in fall colors, their are plenty of places in Central Illinois to catch a glimpse. However, as one of the largest forested areas in the state, Allerton Park and Retreat Center is a spot that truly showcases some of the most diverse foliage in the area.
Allerton Park Natural Areas Manager Nate Beccue stays busy throughout the fall season making sure the grounds look their best at the park and on the trails. However, for him, being able to devote time each day to taking in the fall colors on the trails means a lot.
“Its a very peaceful place to be.” says Beccue.
While many people who visit Allerton may have a tendency to stay close to the more familiar landmarks such as the mansion or well known statutes, Beccue says that taking the time to wander the trails will result in the best color watching.
