When you walk through downtown Champaign, plenty of sights may catch your attention. However, no unique building or store probably is liable to spark as much interest as a statue of an egg sitting quietly outside a local bar.
The Mr. Eggwards statue has been getting plenty of attention since it was installed along Walnut Street late last year. It is part of the the Public Art League’s mission to get art out to the community. Eric Robeson, treasurer at the Public Art League, says that Mr. Eggwards has been so unique that it has helped raise awareness of the organization’s mission.
“Its interesting to bring a variety of pieces out that are talked about the most it actually fosters more attention to public art.” says Robeson
Mr. Eggwards was created by Minneapolis artist Kimber Fiebiger, who has created many works of art involving eggs. She says that the subject always garners attention.
“Its just something simple we can smile at and it makes the world a better place.” says Fiebiger.
