A local thrift store is making a big difference in the lives of people all over Champaign-Urbana and beyond. The Courage Connection store, located inside Lincoln Square mall in Urbana fills a unique role in the community. With clothing, shoes, furniture and collectables, visitors are able to find many different things they can purchase to make a difference for the community. Funds raised from purchases directly benefit victims of domestic violence served by Courage Connection.
Additionally, Courage Connection clients are able to receive vouchers to shop at the store. It allows them and their families to have access to quality clothing and accessories. It is something staff at Courage Connection says makes a big impact for those they serve.
“Being in a domestic violence situation, a lot of people in those situations are being controlled or told what they can or cannot do. So, it is very liberating and empowering to be able to come in and pick out what clothes they want to wear.” says store manager Jessica Navejas
