CLINTON – Perhaps the challenges in marriage in 1867 are more similar to the challenges in marriage in 2016 than we might think.
A dog-eared page from an 1867 book on marriage suggests a wife’s gentle reminder to her husband that marriage is a “two-way street.”
“This was a really fun discovery,” says Joey Woolridge, Director of the C.H. Moore Homestead & DeWitt County Museum. “The book contains this couple’s marriage license and includes advice for couples to have a successful marriage. By this page for husbands happens to be dog-eared. Was she telling him something?”
