“Bombshell” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” hit area big screens

Champaign, Ill. (WCIA)

The latest Star Wars film and a true life expose start on area screens this week. Here to review Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Bombshell are film critics Pam Powell and Chuck Koplinski.

A group of women (Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman & Margot Robbie) decide to take on Fox News head Roger Ailes (John Lithgow) and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network. Compelling and infuriating, the film is an intriguing document regarding one of the seminal events in the #MeToo movement. The performances are, across the board, exceptional yet curiously the film falls short in having the devastating effect it strives for. 3 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated R. 108 minutes. AMC-C, SAV. (Starts Friday)

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga. J.J. Abrams hits all of the right notes, delivering the spectacle fans crave as well as heart-tugging moments with characters old and new alike. A satisfying conclusion that was worth the wait. 3 ½ Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 141 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, ONA, SAV. (Starts Friday)
