ILLINOIS (WCIA) — When lawmakers return to the statehouse from a two-week Spring Break, they will have their work cut out for them.

Before the House and Senate can agree on a state budget proposal by a May 31st deadline, first they must address a number of Governor J.B. Pritzker’s ideas to raise new revenue. Some of the more complex or controversial measures included in Pritzker’s budget proposal include legalizing recreational marijuana, legalizing sports gambling, expanding gaming, taxing plastic and paper bags, and reducing the amount of money the state will pay into the pension systems by nearly a billion dollars.

On Capitol Connection, veteran statehouse reporters Bernie Schoenburg from the State Journal-Register and Dave Dahl from WTAX joined moderator Mark Maxwell with insight and analysis on what lies ahead in the next few weeks before the budget deadline arrives.
