Karina Rubio

Karina Rubio’s first time on the news was well before her journalism career started. She sang live on a Chicago news station while waiting in line to audition for American Idol at just 16 years old.

Nowadays, you can catch her anchoring The Morning Show on weekdays alongside Matthew White.

Karina joined the WCIA team in 2019 as a recent college grad from Indiana University in Bloomington. At IU, she covered news and sports for the student news channel. That’s where she developed her love of storytelling and keeping the community informed.

Karina has worn many hats in her time at WCIA. Before stepping onto the anchor desk, she was a dayside/weekend and morning reporter. Karina has loved traveling to all the small towns across central Illinois and learning about what makes each one special.

She’s thrilled to be working in her home state. Born and raised in Chicago, Karina takes trips there often to visit her big family. She especially loves spending time with her two little nieces.

Karina also enjoys trying out different restaurants, being on a beach, and going to concerts.

If you have a story idea or anonymous tip, don’t hesitate to reach out to her!
