Cassandra Smith

Hello! I’m Cassandra Smith and I am the Digital Executive Producer.

I’ve been on the digital team since around November of 2019 and I love my job! My favorite part about this gig is that I never stop learning new tricks and tips on making articles look great and more reader-friendly.

Before I became part of this team, I spent over a year as a producer for The Morning Show. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting anyone from the morning crew, you’ll know they are a fun bunch to be around…and you definitely need people like that when your morning cup of coffee hasn’t quite kicked in yet at 4 a.m..

Before I got involved with the TV world, I came from several years in the radio industry. I started my career at 16 years old at a Danville radio station. There, an internship led to a part-time job as a board operator as I finished high school and went throughout college.

I graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Journalism. After graduation, I transitioned from my station in Danville to another in Decatur as a multimedia journalist/anchor. The Soy City treated me well and I met some wonderful people during my time there. I learned a lot that would prove to help me when I made the leap into television.

I love the broadcasting industry and I’m amazed by the people I work alongside every day. They work hard to keep viewers informed and they are some of the nicest people around.

When I’m not scurrying to get the latest breaking news on our website, I enjoy doing a lot of different things and I’ve found that a lot of them are centered around music. I love all types of music (Classic Rock being #1 in my heart) and I was active in theater and band throughout high school and college, including a couple years as a member of the Marching Illini Color Guard.
