CATLIN, Ill. (WCIA) — When you get good service or great food somewhere you might write a review online or talk to the manager.
One area woman took giving praise to a repairman to the next level after he was her Angel Among Us.
It was a routine job on a broken boiler for service technician Greg Black. He’s worked at Blackie’s out of Tilton for 11 years. He said it was an easy fix, but it was more than that for 80-year old Linda Hutzell.
“They sent Greg out who turned out to be a gem,” Hutzell remembered.
Hutzell couldn’t believe his attention to detail and was impressed that he gave her his home number in case there was a problem.
“Mechanics have a bad name out there as for taking advantage of people,” Black said. “I just made sure she trusted me.”
Hutzell said, “I was so excited that I had someone who really cared.”
The service was so good, Hutzell told her brother who lives in Ohio. He was so happy someone was taking such great care of his sister miles away that he told his friend, who happens to be a Congressman.
The men decided the best way to say thank you was with a flag flying over the U.S. Capitol building in his honor. Black was speechless especially because the flag flew on his birthday.
It was mailed to his home a week later. Hutzell even bought a case for him to put it in.
Black said, “It’s kind of a win for all of us there, the ones providing good work.”
It’s also a reminder that a compliment can go a long way, even across the country.
